9 Weeks Old

Avery turned 9 weeks old yesterday!  To celebrate, we decided to try giving her a bottle.   I have been dreading this for weeks, but knew that we needed to get her used to a bottle before I go back to work.

I have heard horror stories about breastfed babies that will not take a bottle at all, or it takes trying 10-12 bottles before you can find one that they like.  I only had a couple ounces of milk pumped, but I thought we could go ahead and try that and I could finish off the feeding.  We had 2 sets of bottles at home that had come with my pumps, so our plan was to try those first then go buy more bottles later for our 2nd attempt.

We warmed up the bottle,  Adam took Avery and the bottle,  I wished them luck and headed into the other room to paint my toenails.   I really expected to hear Avery crying at any moment,  but things were mysteriously quiet.  After getting one coat on my toenails,  I snuck out to the living room to check on them.  Avery was happily chugging down the milk and was almost finished.   I was in shock! She took the first bottle we tried and didn't even fuss about it.

Either Adam truely is the baby whisperer,  Avery is the best baby ever, or both!

2 Months

It's getting a little harder to take her picture.  She kept looking around instead of at the camera!

Weight: 11 lbs 2 oz - 50th percentile

Length: 23.5 inches - 90th percentile

Head:  14.5 inches - 20th percentile

Clothes: 0-3 months and 3-6 months.  She has outgrown most of her footed pj's.  They are too short and the feet are too small.

Diapers:  She has moved to a size 2 diaper!

Schedule: You are doing great with your schedule!  You have consistent wake time and usually take fairly decent naps.  You usually eat every 2.5 - 3 hours, stay awake for about 1.5 hours, then take a 1.5 hour nap.

You have recently dropped your middle of the night feeding!  I had read that according to the book, you should be sleeping 9-10 hours without a feeding around this time.  I mentioned it to your daddy and he said that you probably would sleep if I didn't jump up to feed you so quickly in the middle of the night.  I usually didn't wait for you to cry to get you up and feed you.  As soon as you started to stir, I would get you up to eat.

So we tried to just give you your paci or bounce you for a few minutes if you woke up.  If you would have started to cry, then I would have feed you, but you didn't!  You slept from 8:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for 3 nights in row.  Let's hope you keep it up!  The bad thing is that I still wake up for your feeding and can't go back to sleep.  Maybe I need to get on the same schedule as you!

Temperament/Personality: You are still a very happy baby.  Since you started to smile, you smile all the time!

Likes: You still love to play on your activity mat and talking to your mommy and daddy.  We sing lots of songs and are still reading a chapter of Little Women every night.

Dislikes: There isn't much that you just doesn't like.  You like baths now that I crank the heat up high before we put you in the tub.  You have even gotten better about letting me put you in your carseat.  The only time you are really fussy is when you are sleepy.  When you are really sleepy, you start to rub your face and grab at your hair.

Happenings: Not only are you smiling, but you also coo and squeal when you get really excited.  You are doing great at tummy time and with your head control.  The doc said that he was very impressed with your strength!  I can also tell that you can see better, you stare at me and your daddy and will follow toys with your eyes.

Doctor's Report: You are right on track.  He said you have wonderful strength and should be rolling within the next month.  He was surprised at how much tummy time you will tolerate - and here I thought we weren't doing enough!  You are still a perfect little girl :)

I really feel like we are getting the hang of this.  I'm so glad that I still have 6 weeks left at home with you, but I know if will go by too fast.

8 Weeks Old

Our sweet baby girl is 8 weeks old today.  It seems like every day she is more alert and learning new things.  She still loves to be sung to and spend time on the activity mat.  We had a couple of adventures this week.  We went to the new HomeGoods and visited with Aunt Sissy after the appointment with the accountant.

Adam and I were talking today that it feels like ages since we were at the hospital having Avery and it feels like she's always been here.  On the other hand, we can't believe its already been 8 weeks!  Here's a few pics from this week.

Mommy Moment

I felt like a true mommy this morning, but not in the sweet way you might think.  I was the mommy that you see on TV shows..the one that is all disheveled and looks like she may have recently been run over by a truck.

Well maybe I'm exaggerating a little.  Avery and I headed to Fayetteville this morning to meet with the accountant.  I had it all planned out.  Avery would eat at 5:30 am (her normal time), then we would head down to Fayetteville early enough that I could feed her in the parking lot before the appt so she would be a happy quiet baby during our meeting.
Well last night she decided to go 7 hours between feedings.  Great for her sleep deprived parents, but not so great for her schedule.  Since she ate a 3 am, she didn't wake up to eat until 6 am.  No biggie, I would just have her eat a little sooner than normal so she could still get a feeding before the appt.  We ended leaving 15 min late and not getting to Fayetteville until 20 min before 9.  Again, no biggie, I would just let Avery eat for 15 min then head into the office.

I get in the backseat to feed her and as soon as she starts eating, I hear it...one of those huge rumbling diaper fillers that you parents are all to familiar with.  OK..we can handle this!  We'll just let her eat for 10 min and hope that's enough to tide her over and give us enough time to change her diaper.

After she eats, I pick her up and realize that she's had a blowout.  Poop is all over her!  Now I'm starting to stress because I can't find my changing pad and I remember that I used her spare outfit the other day without replacing it.

I plopped her directly on by backseat (thank goodness for leather!) and began the process of cleaning her up.  I got her in a clean diaper, cleaned off my seat, covered up her bare legs with a blanket and headed into my appt with 2 minutes to spare.  As I'm walking across the parking lot, I feel something wet on my foot.  I look down and see that there is a dirty wipe stuck in my shoe and laying across my foot.  I reach down, grab the dirty wipe, throw it in my purse and walk into the office.  I'm now officially a real mommy! :)

7 Weeks Old

Our wide-eyed baby girl is 7 weeks old today.  Where has the time gone?

We hung out at home early this week, but she spent the day with the Pitts on Thursday and all the Daily girls on Friday.  We were worn out after that!

She has really started to smile a lot this week.  She has the most beautiful smile!  (I might be a little partial :)). She really smiles a lot when I sing to her.  All Adam has to do is talk to her to get a grin...she must already be a daddy's girl.

First Doc Appointment

Avery had her first doctor's appointment that wasn't a "well child" visit.  Cici was in town, so she went with us.

The poor baby has a rash all over her face :(  We originally thought it was just baby acne, but it kept getting worse.  The doc prescribed a steroid cream and said it should be better in a couple of days.

After her appointment,  Aunt Sissy joined us for lunch a PF Changs and a little shopping.

Hangin' with the Pitts

I had a doctor's appointment today, so Melissa agreed to babysit Avery while I went to the doctor and ran some errands.  It was my first time to leave Avery since she was born.  I knew she was in great hands, so I didn't worry one bit.

She even got to spend some time with her cousins!  Thanks Pitts crew for taking such good care of Avery.  She had a great time!

Happy 1st Birthday, Shelby!

Shelby is 1 year old today.  I can't believe we have already had her for that long!  It seems like just yesterday that I came home from my Junior League meeting to find Adam holding little baby Shelby on the couch.  She has been the best puppy!   She is extremely well behaved and has only torn up a few things.

She loves licking Killa's teeth, kissing Avery, and chewing on bones.  I can't wait to see her and Avery interact when Avery gets a little older.  I have a feeling they are going to be best friends.  Happy Birthday,  Shelby.  We love you!

6 Weeks Old

I decided to switch to a weekly blog post.  I realized that it was starting to stress me out to try to remember to post every day.  I'll still try to post more often, but no promises :)

While I was sick, Avery got off her schedule,  so we've been working on getting her back on track.  She's been doing great and is still just waking up once at night then going right back down after she eats.

We got to hang out with Aunt Sissy on Thursday.   We did a little shopping and went to lunch before my doc appointment.   On Friday, Cici came over and spent the day giving Avery lots of loving.  Pop also came over and cuddled Avery and brought her some Harley gear.  I'll post pics of her in it soon.  Avery is very lucky to have so much family that lives close and loves her very much.

I took this pic this afternoon.  She played so hard on her activity mat that she wore herself out and fell fast asleep!  We sure do love this little girl!
