Chili Verde...yummy!!

Weekends

I just started this blog and I'm already behind!  Time for a little catch up..

Last weekend:

Adam and I drove to Lincoln to watch Jayden's basketball game.  I had no idea that Lincoln was so far away!  I thought it was right on the other side of Farmington...and it was...30 minutes on the other side.  I'm glad we went though.  It was fun getting to drive through all the small Arkansas towns and show Adam (the California boy) what it's like in Small Town, Arkansas.

Melissa's directions to the gym included, "follow the paw prints on the street"...only in a small town!  After the game (Cardinal's won - woo hoo!) we headed back towards Farmington and made a pit stop at the Walmart Express in Prarie Grove on the way.  The lady in front of us at the register didn't have $.50 to pay for her medicine, so the cashier covered it for her.  It was a good reminder of how lucky we are to have good jobs and it made me very proud to work for a company where a cashier would be willing to pay out of her own pocket for someone's medicine.

We stopped at a cute little restaurant in Farmington called Briar Rose.  It looks like a storybook cottage inside and out.  They bake their own bread, cinnamon rolls, etc.  The food was pretty good and I treated myself to a cinnamon roll "to go."

The rest of the weekend was pretty uneventful.  We did some dehydrating (apples and pears) and admired the new dining table.

This weekend:

Work has been so hectic lately that I really could have used a nice weekend of sleeping late and lounging in my pj's, but that wasn't in the cards.  On Saturday morning I had a Jr. League mini retreat.

Don't let the term "mini retreat" fool you!  We spent Saturday morning from 8:00 - 12:00 cleaning the Peace at Home family shelter.  We scrubbed and organized every inch of that place.  It needed a lot of work, but looked so much better once we left.  I was exhausted!  I had to get up at 5:30 so that I could get there in time and did some heavy duty work for 4 hours.  I guess all this sitting at a desk has made me lazy.

We didn't do anything very exciting the rest of the weekend.  We ran errands, washed clothes, cleaned, cooked, etc.  The weather was gorgeous so it was nice to be able to enjoy it.

After the day I've had today, it was good that I got a little rest on Sunday.  I'm in dire need of a vacation!!

Happenings at the Ranch

I'm very sad to report that our kitty (Bob) is missing. :( Betis and I have been really sad about it. She was adjusting well - staying in the garage, playing and cuddling with The Betis, and even warming up to Big Bear. It happened on one of the really windy days last week. We think the wind blew open the dog door and she got out. I'm still holding out hope that she will return one day.

We had a great weekend last week. On Friday night Adam and I ate dinner at Outback with Mom and Dad. Saturday morning we had the Saturday Morning meeting so afterwards we ran errands then came home to watch the playoffs. We made a quick run to Missouri and this is what we saw...

I guess in the country you have to treat the roads yourself! I'll try to remember to start carrying a shovel if I'm driving out here in inclimate weather. Ha!

Mom and Dad were keeping the boys at the lakehouse Saturday night so I got to spend some time with them. We had so much fun with Blu! He chased them around in circles over and over. I was able to capture a pic when the took a break.

I've been doing a lot of baking since I got my new Kitchenaid Mixer. One of the most frustrating parts for me is scooping out flour. It's so hard to scoop out of the bag without making a huge mess! I've been making homemade bread and after 6 cups of scooping, I'm ready to throw the flour across the room. Walmart to the rescue!
I got this great glass canister for less than $10!!! It's super cute, is easy to scoop from and holds 2 full bags of flour.

On a related note, Adam made his yummy meatloaf last night. The bacon is woven in the top and looked so pretty that I had to take a pic before it went in the oven.

Well I'm off to eat breakfast then headed to watch the oldest Pitts boy play basketball in Lincoln. Happy Weekend!

Weekend Projects

We had quite a productive weekend!  I made 2 batches of bread out of my new cookbook, made homemade angel biscuits, got my hair cut, and planned and shopped for all the meals this week.  But the most thing was getting a doggie door for Big Bear and the Betis!

The Betis and The Kitty

We have made it to day 3 and both the kitty and the Betis have survived!   The kitty spent most of the past couple of days hiding under the chair or in the couch.  This has really upset the Betis because she has wanted to play with the kitty very badly.

Betis has literally sat by the chair crying because the kitty wouldn't come out.  Now that the kitty has decided to come out if hiding there have been a couple of run-ins.  Basically Betis goes to check out the kitty, the kitty hisses at Betis,  and Betis get scared.  She's spent a lot of time hiding behind us. :)  The pics show Betis pacing and waiting for the kitty to come out.

On another note, we had a great weekend!  Hung out at home for New Years and made snickerdoodle cookies - yum!  We took down christmas decorations yesterday.   Today we went out to lunch, went to see "We Bought a Zoo" and just out homemade manicotti and homemade bread in the oven.  Don't you just love long weekends?
